The Novo Nordisk Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Science Teacher Award to recognize and make visible a special effort within the science subjects in primary school education.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s science teacher award is aimed at committed and skilled teachers in the subjects of physics/chemistry, biology, geography and mathematics.
Award Information
- The Novo Nordisk Foundation Science Teacher Prize is awarded annually and is divided into two prizes; one for a teacher east of the Great Belt and one for a teacher west of the Great Belt.
- Each award consists of a sum of DKK 250,000 consisting of a personal honor award of DKK 50,000 and DKK 200,000 for the school.
- The share that accrues to the school must be used for the development of science education (e.g. purchase of experimental equipment, upgrading of premises, excursions or further training).
- Participation and stay at the Big Bang conference 2024 for the prize recipient is also included in the price.
Criteria
- The award is aimed at teachers in the Danish primary school. Teachers who teach within the science subject block may be considered. Meaning:
- Nature/technology
- Physics chemistry
- Biology
- Geography
- Mathematics
- The main criterion is that candidates have delivered a special teaching effort within one or more of these subjects. In the selection, emphasis is also placed on candidates:
- Creates interest and motivation for science and technology among children and young people
- Develops, applies and shares inspiring science teaching methods
- Actively participates in externally oriented science activities and/or participates in collaborations across subjects or education levels
- Contributes to promoting a stimulating science environment that qualifies colleagues.
- All criteria do not have to be met for a nominated teacher to be considered.
- Children/young people, parents and colleagues can make suggestions for candidates, but the recommendation must be made via the teacher’s school head or school board. One or more teachers and teams of up to three people from the same school can be nominated. If the award is given to a team, each award recipient receives DKK 25,000.
- The nominated teacher must agree to being nominated. The Novo Nordisk Foundation Science Teacher’s Award cannot be received by teachers from the same school in the following four years after receiving the award, but previously nominated candidates who have not received the award are welcome to re-nominate.
Details
- The award recipients are selected by the Committee for the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Teaching Awards and will be contacted directly during February 2024. The awards will be presented at this year’s Big Bang Conference.
