The Africa Geographic is thrilled to seek applications for its Photographer of the Year Award.
Benefits
- The overall winner (plus partner) and the two runners-up (plus their partners) of Photographer of the Year 2025 will enjoy a teamAG safari to explore the primal forests of Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the remote north of Congo-Brazzaville.
- This ultimate adventure will include 7 nights, including 5 nights at Camp Imbalanga in Odzala-Kokoua National Park and 2 nights in Brazzaville.
- Dates (seven nights): The winners will spend 6 days/5 nights in Odzala-Kokoua and one night on each side in Brazzaville, the capital city of Congo-Brazzaville.
- Flights: Winners must organise their own transport to and from Maya-Maya International Airport, in Brazzaville, Congo-Brazzaville. All transfers between Maya-Maya, the Brazzaville hotel and Camp Imbalanga are covered by Africa Geographic.
- Costs: Africa Geographic will cover all costs of the trip as described, excluding gratuities and items of a personal nature.
Eligibility Criteria
- Photographer of the Year entrants must be 18 years and older.
- Previous winners of this competition may enter in subsequent years.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Photos that have at any time before the finalisation of this competition won other photographic competition/s (including category winners) will not be considered.
- Employees of Africa Geographic and their sponsors may not enter.
Selection Criteria
- Entrant photos must be taken on the African continent or associated islands. Only entries of African wildlife, landscapes, safari experiences and/or culture will be accepted.
- Photos depicting wildlife should be of wild animals – no photos of captive wildlife (including farm animals, petting facilities, household pets, and zoo animals) will be considered.
- Baiting wildlife for photographic purposes is unacceptable – any submissions that appear to have been obtained via baiting will not be considered.
- Entries depicting humans: Please note that you should always obtain permission from your subjects to photograph them.
- Flash photography is permissible if it does not impact the subject matter’s behaviour or well-being.
Application Requirements
- No composite images or images generated by AI will be permitted.
- Any software (including AI) used for post-production adjustments should be used appropriately, not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality. Photos should faithfully represent the original scene.
- Photos should not exceed 2MB in size (per photo).
- Multiple entries are permitted.
- Photos must be submitted in JPG or PNG format.
- They may request RAW files and higher resolution photos, and refusal will result in that photo being disqualified and any awarded prizes forfeited. All winners (winner, runners up and highly commended) must provide raw files of their winning submissions before the winners are announced.
- Do not add borders or copyright watermarks – they will add a copyright symbol and your name.
- Photos should be a faithful representation of the original scene. Post-production adjustments should be used appropriately and not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality.
- Please provide either your Facebook or Instagram username/handle if you would like them to tag you if/when they share your photo.
- Please label each of your photographs in the following order: Your Full name-subject/species-Location. If the photo is of a person, please include the person’s name in the label if those details are available.
- Please provide a brief description/caption for your photographs.
