The Multicultural Queensland Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations working towards an inclusive multicultural Queensland.
The Awards ceremony is part of Multicultural Queensland Month in August and is focused on creating a more inclusive multicultural Queensland through learning, action and celebration.
Award Categories
- The award categories are:
- Outstanding Contribution by a New Queenslander (individual only): Recognising the outstanding contribution of a Queenslander who has actively contributed to improving their local community or Queensland society.
- Multicultural Sector Outstanding Achiever (individual): Recognising individuals who work or volunteer within the Queensland Multicultural Sector who are taking innovative approaches and achieving outstanding success in supporting Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds to participate and contribute to the social and economic life of Queensland.
- Multicultural Sector Outstanding Achiever (organisation): Recognising non-government organisations, not-for-profit and community groups from the Queensland Multicultural Sector who are working innovatively and achieving outstanding success in supporting Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds to participate and contribute to the social and economic life of Queensland.
- Diversity and Inclusion Champion (individual): Recognising individuals who have gone out of their way to break down barriers to participation for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and created ways to build a sense of belonging and welcome in Queensland.
- Diversity and Inclusion Champion (organisation): Recognising corporations, businesses, community organisations and government agencies that have gone out of their way to break down barriers to participation for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and created ways to build a sense of belonging in Queensland.
- Lifetime Achiever (individual): Recognising an extraordinary individual who has demonstrated an outstanding long-term commitment to supporting and promoting a harmonious and united multicultural Queensland.
- Minister’s Multicultural Award: Recognises the outstanding contributions of a nominee, selected by the Minister for Multiculturalism from nominations across all categories.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to receive a Multicultural Queensland Award the following criteria must be met:
- The nominee must be a resident of Queensland (individuals) or be a Queensland based entity (organisations).
- The nominee must be of good name and character and have not engaged directly or indirectly in any conduct which might discredit the Multicultural Queensland Awards.
- The nominator must have the consent of the nominee to submit a nomination.
- Nominators and nominees under 18 years of age must have the consent of a parent/guardian to nominate or be nominated.
- The nominator must verify that the information about the nominee contained in the nomination is true and correct.
- All nominees agree that their name and photograph can be used in any promotional activities conducted by Multicultural Affairs Queensland.
Selection Criteria
- Nominations will be highly regarded by demonstrating:
- Leadership in building intercultural connections;
- Innovative approaches to fostering welcome and belonging with organisations, individuals or groups;
- Unique skills and experiences that lead to breaking down barriers and enriching the community; and
- Achievement of positive social and/or economic outcomes.
