Deadline: 15 October 2024
The Freedom Prize is inviting applications from young people aged 15 to 25 from France and around the world to choose an inspiring person or organisation, committed to an exemplary fight for freedom.
The Freedom Prize is an educational initiative which aims to raise awareness of freedom, peace and Human rights, inspired by the values of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 in Normandy.
What makes this prize so special is that it involves young people at each of its stages: from the proposals submitted to the international panel of judges to the final selection of the laureate.
Organised by the Normandy Region, implemented with the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace, in partnership with the academic authorities of Normandy and the Canopé network, the Freedom Prize pays tribute to all those who have fought and continue to fight for this ideal.
Stages
- The Freedom Prize will run throughout the school year and features 3 key stages :
- The Call for Proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2025”: Young people aged 15-25 are invited to present the person or organisation whose fight for freedom they wish to make known, using the online form. To participate in this call for applications, you just need to propose, as a group, the person or organization of your choice and defend their recent fight for freedom. The Freedom Prize can be a person or an organization, known to the media or unknown. He/she must have carried out at least one concrete action in the last three years. It is up to you to make your choice and find the right arguments. One of the proposals will be awarded the Freedom Prize!
- The Deliberations of the International Panel of Judges: An international panel of judges made up of 24 young people aged 15 to 25 will meet in Normandy to consider the applications for “Our Freedom Prize”, choosing three people or organizations as nominees for the online vote. They collectively determine the three people or organizations whose fights are, in their opinion, the most representative of a fight for freedom in 2025, it also aims to be representative in its diversity of international youth. It is essential to be able to express yourself orally and in writing in French or English (your choice). It is not necessary to have participated in similar schemes, but the motivation of the candidate is particularly taken into account. From February 12 to 16, 2024, the international jury, will meet at the Caen Memorial to study 512 nominations for the Freedom Prize and select three individuals or organizations engaged in the fight for Freedom.
- The Online Vote: Online voting invites 15-25 year olds from all over the world to nominate the laureate of the Freedom Prize from among the three people or organizations chosen by the international jury.
