The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) opened registrations for the 8th IMPA Journalism Award to encourage the publication of journalistic reports on Mathematics, Science and Technology and to recognize exceptional works that highlight “Mathematics” and “Scientific Dissemination”, bringing these subjects closer to Brazilian society.

Funding Information
- The prizes will be identical in both categories, with each placement benefiting from the following prizes, in gross amounts:
- 1st place: R$10,000.00 (ten thousand reais) and certificate;
- 2nd place: R$5,000.00 (five thousand reais) and certificate;
- 3rd place: R$3,000.00 (three thousand reais) and certificate;
- Honorable mentions (up to two participants): certificate.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalistic reports related to Mathematics, Science or Technology published in any media, such as, but not limited to, newspapers, magazines, portals, blogs, television and radio, which reveal exemplary and inspiring practices, talents and innovations, are of an investigative or explanatory nature, or which point out shortcomings and problems that need to be solved in the areas of Mathematics, Science or Technology, may be submitted to compete for the IMPA Award.
- Only journalistic reports written in Portuguese will be accepted, as well as those in national media or those belonging to international organizations, but owned by Brazil.
- Only candidates may compete for the IMPA Award in any of the categories set out in this Regulation, journalistic reports published and/or displayed between the period of June 24, 2024 to June 24, 2025.
- Registration will be permitted for individuals, national or foreign (who operate in Brazil), over 18 years of age, jointly (co-authorship) or individually.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Reporting is not allowed to be submitted in the previous edition of the award.
- The registration of the following is prohibited:
- Researchers, employees, students and members of the IMPA board;
- Members of the Judging Committee;
- Relatives, up to the 2nd degree, in a direct or collateral line, of the people listed in letters.
- Any employee of sponsors and/or supporters of the IMPA Award.
Judgement Criteria
- The following will be the criteria for judgment:
- Journalistic relevance of the topic;
- Originality;
- Depth;
- Clarity in the preparation of the report;
- Quality of the execution of the report.
Application Requirements
- Payment shall be made within 40 (forty) business days from receipt of the following documentation:
- Copy of ID;
- Copy of CPF;
- Updated proof of residence; and
- National Foreigner Registry (RNE).
