Applications are now open for the inaugural edition of the Expo Innovation Award, jointly launched by the Bureau International des Expositions and the Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI) on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.
The award will recognise two outstanding innovations – one in Technological Innovation and one in Social Innovation.
Focus Areas
- Technological Innovation: The Expo Innovation Award honours cutting-edge technologies, innovative systems, and exhibition events that align with the Expo’s theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” and its subthemes: “Saving Lives”, “Empowering Lives”, and “Connecting Lives”.
- Social Innovation: The Expo Innovation Award highlights novel, effective, and sustainable solutions to social challenges. Eligible initiatives should demonstrate a lasting impact on society, particularly by raising awareness or engaging communities both during and beyond the Expo.
Award Information
- Each receives a prize of 50,000 euros to support their continued development.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only innovations that have been displayed or demonstrated at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai are eligible for consideration.
- Eligible candidates for the Expo Innovation Award include individuals, private corporations, NGOs, and other entities connected to the Expo.
- For the field of Technical Innovation, eligible entries may range from cutting-edge technological innovations to systems and activities aligned with the Expo’s theme and sub-themes, to innovative exhibition events enhancing visitor experience during the Expo.
- For the field of Social Innovation, eligible entries should demonstrate its alignment with the social goals of Expos and potential social impacts.
- If selected as the final winner, the applicant agrees to commit to submitting follow-up reports, detailing the progress and impact of their innovations beyond the Expo.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Governmental entities are not eligible.
