The City of Innsbruck is inviting nominations for its Emperor Maximilian Prize to recognize outstanding achievements by personalities in the field of European regional and local politics.
The competition is aimed at projects and initiatives that are committed to the central goals of the European unification process in a common, creative and sustainable manner. Lighthouse projects are sought that serve as an example to young people in particular of how the future of Europe can be actively shaped.
Geographical Focus
- The project will be carried out in one or more of the 27 EU member states and/or of the 46 member states of the Council of Europe, with the focus on interregional (e.g. regions, federal states, cantons, provinces, etc.) or inter-communal (cities, municipalities, etc.) cooperation.
Prize information
- The prize consists of a certificate, a medal (1509 Kaiser Maximilian I. thaler) and a cash prize of 10,000 euros. The cash prize is earmarked for the award-winning project.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Kaiser Maximilian Prize (KMP) is aimed in particular at the following recipients:
- individuals;
- groups of persons (companies and associations);
- research institutions;
- interest groups;
- local authorities.
- The applicant has reached the age of 18 years and is a citizen of one of the given countries.
- The applicant submits the project either individually or on behalf of a group of natural or legal persons.
- Applications must be written in English.
Application Requirements
- The following framework criteria must be clearly stated in the application text:
- Subject: The application describes an ongoing project;
- Objectives/values: The project described is in line with the objectives of the European Union (EU) and/or the Council of Europe;
- Marketing: the project takes place in public space or intends to communicate the goals and values of a united Europe as effectively as possible to the media and the public;
- Innovation: the project must be recognisable as unique in the European context, at least in clearly visible parts;
- Inclusion: the project aims to address as diverse a picture of society as possible;
- Model character: the project can be transferred to other regions or municipalities in the same or a similar way;
- Non-profit status: the project emphasises the common good and is not (primarily) profit-oriented;
- Legality: the project does not violate legal provisions in the country itself or general European legal principles;
- Time horizon: the project has already started. Completed projects cannot be considered at this point.
