Entries are now open for the Takeda Innovators in Science Award with Nature to honour groundbreaking research by early-career scientists in Gastrointestinal and Inflammatory Diseases, Neuroscience and Oncology.
This global award recognizes researchers who are advancing the frontiers of scientific discovery, fostering innovation that has the potential to transform lives. The goal is to uplift emerging scientific leaders by providing them with the support and recognition needed to drive bold, transformative breakthroughs in their fields.
Prize Information
- Three category winners, one in Gastrointestinal and Inflammatory Diseases, one in Neuroscience and one in Oncology will, in addition, each receive:
- An unrestricted prize of US$75,000
- Coverage on nature.com
- An expenses-paid invitation to attend the award symposium and ceremony gala in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on 9th April 2026
- One grand prize winner, selected from the three category winners, will in addition receive:
- An additional unrestricted prize of US$175,000
- Shortlisted applicants will each receive:
- Access to a 12-month Career Development Program led by Nature Masterclasses that will comprise a series of expert-led, virtual coaching sessions designed to strengthen professional skills and support career development
- Listing on the awards web page.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants must:
- Be employed, full or part-time, as a researcher at a university or research institute, including those on fixed-term contracts
- Work in the field of research and/or development in any aspect of Gastrointestinal and Inflammatory Diseases, Neuroscience and Oncology
- Hold a PhD, MD or equivalent doctorate or advanced degree obtained in the last 10 years.

- Secondary:
- Extent of collaboration
- Real-world impact
- Patient-centric research, additional activities and challenges.
