Applications are now open for the Gulbenkian Heritage Prize to distinguish interventions of excellence in the area of conservation, recovery, enhancement or dissemination of Portuguese heritage, especially immovable or movable heritage.
Prize Information
- The Prize, worth €50,000 (fifty thousand euros), will be granted annually, according to the calendar to be defined by the Executive Board from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Eligibility Criteria
- Refer to assets with unquestionable cultural value, and interventions must demonstrate their previous state, the criteria, the methodology, the techniques, the materials used and compliance with applicable legal standards, in particular the authorization of the competent public entities in the case of classified goods;
- Include an insertion project and reuse (landscape, museum) or other) whenever it is verified the change in the function of the asset in question;
- Ensure that the intervention is carried out by a team led by a legally recognized qualified technician.
- Interventions relating to goods that are owned by the State, including Local Authorities, are not eligible, except if these assets are leased or concessioned to private entities.
Evaluation Criteria
- Criteria for awarding the Prize will take into account the objectives that presided over their institution, namely to deal with of an intervention that allows the safeguarding or enhancement of an asset of recognized cultural value, through of your study, judicious application of recommendations and good practices, and which allows, through an effect demonstration, foster interest in the recovery of Portuguese heritage.
- The following conditions will be considered:
- Preference for the award of the Prize the classification of goods, according to the Basic Law on Cultural Heritag; the interdisciplinary constitution of intervention teams;
- The contribution to the progress of knowledge and technology in this area;
- As well as the fact of the interventions being initiated of non-profit institutions and of recognized public utility.
- Emphasis may be placed on each year to a certain type of patrimonial assets.
Application Requirements
- Submission of applications to the Award must be made exclusively by means of a PDF documents
- Applications may be submitted regarding ongoing interventions, interventions completed in the year in which if the Award is reported or in the previous year.
- Projects that have been the subject of Applications from previous years cannot be submitted again.
- Applications must be accompanied by with the interventions, as well as the project insertion and reuse of the asset, the identification and curricula of all the responsible team.
- Candidates may apply for the Prize.
- the owners, possessors or holders of other real rights of enjoyment over the assets in question; the promoters of the interventions; or the technical teams responsible for implementing the intervention projects.
- Each application must be signed by the coordinator or representative of the technical team and the representative of the owner of the work, indicating to whom the value of the Prize will be delivered in the case to be contemplated.
