The Royal Geographical Society (with Institute of British Geographers) is accepting applications for the Ray Y Gildea Jr Award to support innovation in teaching and learning in higher and secondary education.
The Ray Y Gildea Jr Award is the Society’s first endowed award to support innovation in teaching and learning in higher and secondary education. Applications can be made for projects to research, develop and or pilot innovations in teaching and learning in any field of geography in higher or secondary education. The outcomes of the grant should show direct benefit to students of geography.
The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is the UK’s learned society and professional body for geography and geographers.
Funding Information
- To date in 2024, with the generous support of our donors, over £166,000 of funding has been allocated to support 70 field research and school fieldwork projects, from 36 institutions.
Salary costs of the PI costs to buy-out staff time will not be funded. Grants may not be used to fund conference attendance (with the exception of the 30th International Geographical Congress Award). Expenses for equipment, lab costs and sample analysis should not exceed 20% of the amount awarded.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be currently employed in the higher education (college) sector and/or secondary school level, either in the UK or the USA, actively teaching students.
