The future of ASEAN lies in the hands of its young people! This year, the Youth Sustainable Project (YSUP) Competition 2024 is entering its third year serving as a platform for ASEAN youth to showcase their projects.
For 2024, the call for applications will also be extended to youth from Timor-Leste as a candidate country for ASEAN. Youth from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste will be invited to nominate projects that align with the strategic priorities of the EU Global Gateway Strategy.
For this competition, the organization is inviting ASEAN youth to pitch their projects in a one-minute video. Ten of the best video pitches will be awarded free mentorship sessions by project experts and unique prizes from the Delegation of the European Union to ASEAN.
Objectives
- The objectives of the Youth Sustainable Project (YSUP) Competition 2024 are:
- To give more opportunities and a platform for ASEAN youth to showcase their sustainable projects to a wider audience in ASEAN as well as on an international stage.
- To identify projects that have the most potential to bring more positive impacts and benefits to their neighbourhood and community.
- To inspire and empower ASEAN youth to actively contribute to ASEAN’s green transition and ASEAN community.
Themes
- The Youth Sustainable Project (YSUP) Competition 2024 will focus on two main themes:
- Sustainable Connectivity: Trade, Economic Connectivity and Sustainable Value Chains; Transport; Energy; Digital; and Higher-Education/People-to-People Connectivity.
- Green Transition: Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy; Circular Economy; Biodiversity and Sustainable Landscape; Sustainable Food Systems; and Green and Smart Cities.
Prize Information
- Competition prizes (for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners):
- A smart tablet each for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners.
- Certificates from the EU Delegation to ASEAN.
- Participation in a mentorship programme with the selected experts.
- EU gift hampers
- Competition prizes for seven other shortlisted participants:
- A universal smart wireless charger for each of the seven shortlisted participants.
- Certificates from the EU Delegation to ASEAN.
- Participation in a mentorship programme with the selected experts.

Project Criteria
- Ongoing development projects in the Sustainable Connectivity and/or Green Transition sector.
- Have been implemented for at least three months.
- Provide benefits to the applicants as well as their neighbourhood and communities.
- Project application correctly followed the submission guidelines which will be provided by the Organising Committee.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individuals aged between 18 and 30 years old can participate either representing themselves or on behalf of a group (all members must be aged between 18 and 30 years old). Note: only the group representative will be able to participate in the competition activities.
- Applicants must be nationals of one of the 10 ASEAN Member States (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam) or Timor-Leste.
