- Track 2: Dynamic real-time cardinality estimation for databases:
- Query optimisation is one of the core technologies of modern high-performance databases, ensuring that systems can efficiently respond to user queries. To achieve stable and efficient operation of a database, continuous innovation in data query optimisation is necessary. A key challenge in this area is cardinality estimation, which directly impacts the selection of execution plans and the enhancement of query performance. This is your opportunity to contribute to the advancement of database systems’ core algorithms in the era of big data! In this competition, you will focus on dynamic real-time cardinality estimation for databases, challenging your algorithm design and engineering implementation skills as you help propel databases toward a smarter and more efficient future!
Prize Information
- Grand Winner:
- A cash reward of GBP £6,000 to the top-placing team
- 2nd Place:
- A cash reward of GBP £4,000 to the second-placing team
- 3rd Place:
- A cash reward of GBP £2,000 to each of the third-placing teams
- Internship Opportunities:
- All qualifying Participants will have opportunities to apply for 3-6 months paid internships at Huawei
- Special Visits to China:
- The top students will have the opportunity to attend a visit-trip to Huawei in China
- Souvenirs:
- A Huawei souvenir pool worth GBP £2,000: All submitted teams will have the opportunity to receive great and unique souvenirs
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for this competition:
- Any individual UK or EU-based student (at a recognised education institution) aged at least eighteen (18) years and with full legal capacity.
- Non-Huawei employees.
- The best team members for this competition are:
- Students who are currently in undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD programs.
- Students who are enrolled at a higher education institution in Ireland or the UK.
- Students studying engineering, mathematics, computer science, or similar fields.
- Important Points:
- Teams can have up to 3 members.
- It’s a good idea to have at least one PhD student on your team.
- Each participant can only be a member of one team.
