Apply for Creative Koori Projects – Individuals and Organisations (Australia)

Objectives

• It is a targeted funding round for NSW-based Aboriginal artists, groups, arts/cultural workers (including museum workers), and organisations in delivering arts and culture activities that benefits Aboriginal artists, arts/cultural workers (including museum workers), and Aboriginal communities.
• Creative Koori Projects objectives:
  • invest in Aboriginal NSW-based artists and arts/cultural workers (including museum workers) to engage in professional development opportunities
  • enable Aboriginal NSW-based artists in the development and/or presentation of new work related to career development
  • increase the capacity of Aboriginal NSW-based artists and arts/cultural workers (including museum workers) in becoming arts and cultural leaders
  • create cultural business networks for NSW Aboriginal artists, organisations, and communities
  • increase cultural capacity and promotion of First Nations stories that provide community collaborations and share cultural ownership, including leadership roles
  • nurture cultural skills and businesses to improve wellbeing of First Nations artists, organisations, and communities.

Funding Information

• Grant amount: Up to $60,000.

Types of projects funded under this grant

• Funding is available for a wide range of arts and cultural activities (but not limited to):
  • Aboriginal Artist’s creation of new arts and cultural work, practice-based research, or experimentation.
  • Aboriginal Artists and Arts/Cultural Worker’s professional development opportunities, arts and cultural residencies and mentorships.
  • Theatre production, Visual Arts exhibition, Literature publishing, or Music Album recording.
  • Aboriginal Cultural Centres and Keeping Places conservation and/or development of collections and archives.
  • Recording and preservation of Aboriginal Elder’s cultural stories.
  • making work accessible to audience/artists with disability.
  • Event promotion material and marketing costs and strategic development for audience growth.
  • Significant calendar arts and cultural events, cultural festivals including First Nations women, men, youth, and Elders’ arts and cultural activities/workshops.
  • Attendance and participation to defined cultural community gatherings and forums.

Eligibility Criteria

• To be eligible to apply for Creative Koori Projects funding, you need to meet the following project focus:
  • Your project must be a clearly defined arts and cultural activity that either
  • benefits the employment of NSW-based Aboriginal practicing artists and/or arts/cultural workers (excluding Aboriginal directors, general managers and managers)
  • provides arts and cultural experiences to NSW Aboriginal communities and/or audiences.
• You must be:
  • an individual who is 18 years and above
  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and either
  • an Australian Aboriginal individual or a group of Australian Aboriginal individuals based in NSW for at least 12 months, or
  • an Australian Aboriginal owned/operated organisation based in NSW. This includes Aboriginal organisations that have 51% Aboriginal board members.

Ineligible

• You cannot apply if you:
  • are not an Aboriginal person, group, or an Aboriginal owned/operated organisation based in NSW
  • have applied and/or received previous funding from Create NSW funding for the same stage/phase of the project or for project top-ups
  • your project has already started, taken place or due to be completed before the funding period starts
  • do not meet the ABN requirements
  • are a current employee of Create NSW or have been employed by Create NSW within the last 12 months
  • are seeking support for filmmaking, screen productions or film festivals.

What can’t you apply for?

• Creative Koori Projects Funding cannot support:
  • activities that are carried out to satisfy the course requirements of an educational institution, for example, TAFE or university
  • activities that directly support the delivery of an educational program or course
  • arts and cultural activities that are led by non-professional artists or organisations
  • reimbursement to recover costs of items already purchased (such as flights, accommodation, and materials)
• Note:
  • Aboriginal individuals or group applicants can only submit 1 application to either Creative Koori Projects or Project Funding.
  • Aboriginal organisations can only submit 1 application to one of the following, Annual Funding, Organisation Project Funding or Creative Koori Projects.
  • Purchasing musical instruments, artworks, equipment (such as laptops, cameras, technical equipment, or machinery), or vehicles.
  • Capital works (infrastructure/building activities). Refer to Create Infrastructure regarding capital works funding opportunities.
  • Fundraising and donations, awards, competition entry fees or prize money.
  • Repayment of loans.
  • Filmmaking projects, screen productions or film festivals. Refer to Screen NSW regarding funding opportunities. This does not include videos with direct involvement of artists, musicians, and performers such as music videos, video art and video for performance.
