The Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS) invites proposals for the Saman Kelegama Memorial Research Grant 2024.
The Saman Kelgama Memorial Research Grant is an annual, merit-based grant awarded to an outstanding undergraduate studying in a university in Sri Lanka. The grant aims at promoting policy entrepreneurs amongst undergraduate students by encouraging policy-relevant, rigorous and innovative socio-economic research.
Benefits of the Grant
- One-time research grant of LKR 200,000 for the selected beneficiary.
- Three-month internship at the IPS to carry out the proposed research.
- Access to guidance from senior researchers and utilisation of IPS resources during the internship.
- Flexible internship terms, either entirely in-house or a combination of in-house and online (minimum six weeks in-house).
- Additional subsidy for presenting research findings at local conferences and workshops to promote dissemination of research.
Who can apply?
- The grant is open to 4th year undergraduate students studying economics or a related subject in a University Grants Commission approved university or higher education institution in Sri Lanka.
- The recipient of the Grant will be expected to produce a Policy Discussion Brief within six months of receiving the Grant. The research report can be written on their own or jointly with an IPS senior researcher.
How will the winner be chosen?
- Proposals will be judged on their policy relevance, feasibility, originality and creativity. Three finalists will be chosen and invited to present their proposals at the IPS, where the award recipient will be selected.
