Nominations open for European Charlemagne Youth Prize

It highlights the daily work by young people in strengthening a shared sense of European identity and rewards their active participation in the development of Europe.

Objectives

• This prize is awarded to projects organised by young people that have displayed exceptional achievements in the following areas:
  • promoting European and international understanding based on democratic values (such as, for example, respect for human dignity, freedom, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights);
  • promoting a shared sense of European identity and European integration;
  • encouraging other young people in Europe to become democratically engaged;
  • offering practical examples of Europeans living together as one community
• The projects could focus on the organisation of various youth events, such as, but not limited to, youth exchanges, simulation games, youth political festivals, exhibitions, trainings, online projects, or similar.

Prize Information

• The three winning European projects receive the following awards: first prize €7,500, second prize €5,000, and the third prize €2,500.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicant shall be between the ages of 16 and 30 at the date of submission of the application.
• Applicant shall be either national of an EU Member State or third-country national who resides legally on the territory of the Union at the date of submission of the application.
• Applicant shall be:
  • an individual person, or
  • a group of individuals, or
  • an organisation.
• A project can be either national (i.e. carried out in one Member State and targeting participants from this one Member State) or international (i.e. carried out in more than one Member State and/or targeting participants from more than one Member State).
• A project can only be submitted in one EU Member State – in case of international projects, the application must be submitted in the Member State that the project has the closest link to.

Ineligible

The following projects are not eligible for the European Charlemagne Youth Prize:

• projects in the planning stage and projects in the first stages of implementation for which no results could be identified yet at the moment of the start of the application procedure;
• projects submitted by individuals working for a European institution or for the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen;
• academic theses and publications;
• projects that have already received a prize awarded by a European institution, body,
• office or agency;
• activities by governmental organisations.
