Obodo is pleased to announce the Queer Artist Fund to strengthen LGBTQ+ artists in Nigeria and to provide resources and a platform for queer artists to explore, express, and amplify their narratives.
The Queer Artist Fund seeks to amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ artists in Nigeria, providing a platform for creative expression, dialogue, and community building. They invite artists across various mediums to submit their projects that explore the politics of queerness, challenge societal norms, and contribute to the rich tapestry of cultural production in Nigeria.
Theme
- Submissions must be original works and should explore the politics of queerness, addressing social change, cultural preservation, and the amplification of queer experiences in Nigeria. The focus is on artists using creative expression to explore, critique, and challenge societal norms, prejudices, and discriminatory practices related to LGBTQ+ individuals.
Funding Information
- Seven individual artists will receive financial support up to $3000 to bring their projects to life, along with mentorship, workshops, and opportunities for public exhibition. The fund is open to projects in diverse artistic disciplines, including visual arts, performance, and multimedia.

Eligibility Criteria
- Open to artists based in Lagos and its environs.
- They welcome artists at all stages of their professional lives, from emerging to established.
- All artistic disciplines are also welcome.
- Projects should align with the fund’s mission of exploring the politics of queerness.
