The literary project “Crimean Fig/Qırım inciri” has announced the sixth competition for poets, prose writers and translators.
The competition is designed to strengthen cultural and literary ties between Ukraine and Crimea, to update the topic of the peninsula in Ukrainian literature and to promote mutual understanding of cultures.
The Crimean Fig/Qırım inciri competition traditionally discovers new names and provides a platform for authors from Ukraine, Crimea, other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and abroad. It also promotes translations between Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar, which is important for deeper mutual understanding and support.
Funding Information
- The winners of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of UAH 10,000.
- The best works will be published in the sixth anthology “Crimean Fig”/”Qırım inciri.”
Nominations of the Sixth Competition
- Prose about Crimea in Ukrainian;
- Prose in the Crimean Tatar language (without thematic restrictions);
- Essays about Crimea in Ukrainian or Crimean Tatar;
- Poetry about Crimea in Ukrainian;
- Poetry in the Crimean Tatar language (without thematic restrictions);
- Children’s literature (in Ukrainian about Crimea or in the Crimean Tatar language without thematic restrictions);
- Translation of a work of art from Ukrainian into Crimean Tatar;
- Translation of a work of art from Crimean Tatar into Ukrainian.
Evaluation Criteria
- The works will be evaluated by a jury consisting of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar writers, literary critics, journalists, and public figures.
Application Requirements
- The competition accepts previously unpublished works. There are no restrictions on age, gender, religion, or citizenship.
- The length of prose and translations is from 15,000 to 100,000 characters without spaces; essays are from 7,000 to 15,000 characters without spaces. Poetic works are unlimited in length.
