Applications are now open for the Spier Light Art Programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- Artists and designers – including professionals, students and institutions – are invited to submit expressions of interest.
- They encourage submissions from creatives with diverse backgrounds.
Selection Criteria
- Expressions of interest must be submitted.
- A selection committee led by curators Jay Pather and Vaughn Sadie will review submissions.
- Shortlisted artists may be asked to submit a more detailed proposal.
Application Requirements
- Submissions should incorporate light as a central element and may include:
- Site-specific work – designed for specific locations on Spier Wine Farm
- Sculptural, object-based work
- Interactive art
- Digital works that foreground technology
- Video art
- Experimentation and innovation are encouraged. While there is no fixed theme, artists may explore ideas related to technology, issues affecting South Africa, resilience, enchantment, exuberance and ‘the working wine farm’.
- Expressions of interest must include:
- A biography (200 words) of the artist/collective/studio
- A short overview of the conceptual interests of the work and its category (300 words)
- A concise description of the work, including concept sketches (300 words)
- A description of the use of light in the work (150 words)
- A description of audience interaction/engagement, preferably with a video (150 words)
- A provisional budget indicating full or partial funding needs
- Web links or images of the proposed work (or examples of previous work)
