Call for applications for Norwegian Studies at Universities outside of Norway

Funding Information

• Each university may apply for up to NOK 100,000.

Eligible Costs

• The grant may be used for the following activities/costs:
  • Procurement of Norwegian literature and learning materials
  • Events at the applicant institution, including honorarium for guest lecturers
  • Excursions and events outside of the applicant institution
  • Scientific visits in Norway
  • Development of Norwegian language studies
  • Administrative fees

Ineligible Costs

• The following costs are not eligible:
  • technical aids, office supplies or other learning-related consumables
  • subsistence allowance/meals for guest lecturers and external contributors
  • compensation to the project coordinator
  • honorarium and travel costs associated with visits from authors
  • cost accumulated before June 2025

Eligibility Criteria

• Universities outside of Norway that offer courses in Norwegian may apply.
• Applying institutions may enter collaboration or partnerships with other institutions, organizations or enterprises. Project partners are not considered applicants.
• Each institution may only submit one application, but the application can include multiple activities.

Assessment Criteria

• Applications that meet the formal requirements above will be assessed based on the following:
  • Project relevance and impact:
    • The planned activities will contribute to strengthen Norwegian language education at the applicant institution.
    • The planned activities have potential to create long-term effects at the applicant institution.
    • The project contributes to geographical distribution, particularly in areas with limited existing Norwegian language education.
  • Implementation and collaboration:
    • The planned activities have a clear and realistic plan with defined goals, target groups, timeline and resource allocation.
    • The project includes collaboration with relevant partners, especially Norwegian institutions or experts who contribute to strengthening the implementation.
  • Budget and resource utilisation:
    • The budget is sufficiently detailed and adheres to the guidelines for the Grant.
    • The budget is realistic and suitable for the number of participants.
    • Co-financing or external funding is provided.

Application Requirements

• The following formal requirements apply:
  • The application must be the only application from the university.
  • The application must be written in a Scandinavian language or English.
  • The application must meet the requirements regarding project period and own contribution.
  • HK-dir’s declaration of participation signed by the person administratively responsible for the application must be attached.
  • A detailed budget with information regarding the planned costs per activity must be included.
  • When applying for funding for a scientific stay in Norway (Activity D), the application must include an official invitation letter from a Norwegian higher education or research institution.
  • When applying for funding for development of Norwegian language studies (Activity E), the application must include an official letter from the institution’s management outlining the institution’s commitment and planned course activity.
