The Center for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS) fellowship program aims at the promotion of scientific research at the highest level, its international transfer, academic and public resonance.
The fellowships are intended for established Bulgarian scientists in the field of humanities and social sciences. Disciplinary, methodological and thematic restrictions regarding project proposals are not applicable. Decisive for the selection are the academic qualities of the candidate and the project.
Fellows will have access to electronic and library resources and will be fully integrated into regular research seminars and discussions on the Center for Academic Research’s ongoing programs.
Fellowship Benefits
- Three 5-month scholarships to established Bulgarian researchers and teachers in the amount of 1,000 euros per month;
- The scholarship is awarded for the period from 1 October 2024 to 28 February 2025 or from 1 March to July 31, 2025
- For the duration of the fellowship, approved candidates should be free from teaching and administrative commitments and devote themselves fully to their proposed research.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be Bulgarian citizens and have a defended doctoral dissertation;
- To be associate professors or professors with more than 12 years of scientific experience after defending the doctoral dissertation;
- Have published at least two author monographs;
- Have an excellent command of the English language;
- International experience and publications in prestigious scientific journals are an advantage.
Evaluation Criteria
- high quality of the applicant’s academic portfolio and publications;
- participation in international projects;
- original and innovative research project with substantial contribution;
- projects with an interdisciplinary and/or comparative approach are preferred.
Work Language
- As an international organization with the participation of scientists from abroad, the Center conducts the main part of its scientific activity in English. Its good command is an essential prerequisite for successful communication between the participants in the program and in the held seminars and discussions. For these reasons, only candidates with a good command of the English language are eligible.
