Deadline: 31 December 2023
U.S. Embassy Bangkok is looking for Docent Tour Guides to assist with the “Weaving the Stories” exhibition at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) on Saturdays and Sundays from January 20 – June 23, 2024.
They are looking for friendly, outgoing people with excellent communication skills in both Thai and English with an ability and desire to work with diverse audiences.
Using the exhibition content and a guided script, docents will help visitors of all ages and background understand and appreciate the art installation and celebrate the stories of 190 years of U.S.-Thai friendship.
Docents will play a vital role in the exhibit by providing tours that encourage a meaningful experience for groups of all ages. Docents must be able to adapt their tour for large groups, small groups and visitors of various ages.
The educational role of the docent is the most important and challenging aspect of the job. A docent should help visitors attain a personal relationship with the art. The role of a docent is three-fold
- Serve as hosts, providing a welcoming atmosphere,
- Serve as interpreters and translators of the Weaving the Stories exhibition, helping to give visitors, both Thais and foreigners, a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art installation and celebrate the stories of 190 years of U.S.-Thai friendship,
- Assist in preserving the art installation by providing auxiliary security in exhibition areas and attending monthly meetings about upcoming events, scheduled tours, and exhibition information.

- Successfully present a sample tour for staff
- Commit to 9 hours per day from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for at least 2 months during the exhibition period from January 20 – June 23, 2024
- Docents will be expected to follow all Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) policies
Requirements and Benefits
- They will need 2 bilingual docents per day on Saturdays and Sundays from January 20 – June 23, 2024.
- Working hours: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. There should be one person at the exhibition at all time.
- Please take care of the exhibition. You will serve as a guide for the exhibition as well as a security guard.

- Each docent will receive payment of 1,000 THB per day.
