The Region Uppsala, in collaboration with the Quilt Academy of Sweden and Uppsala Municipality, has announced an international artist residency for textile artists living in Europe, outside of Sweden.
The purpose of the residency is to encourage individual creativity and international artist collaboration in textile/fiber art. During the residency, the recipient is invited to give an artist talk at the Uppsala Art Museum, presenting their work and sharing their experience of the stay.
Funding Information
- The residence period is 4 September – 18 September 2025. The residency offers a grant of 16,000 SEK and an additional travel allowance up to 5,000 SEK for travel to and from Sweden.
Who can apply?
- The residency grant is addressed to a professional textile/fiber artist, or someone with an equally active artistic commitment. The applicant should be living in Europe outside Sweden.
- The artist should work primarily with textile techniques listed below and have an explicit contemporary focus. Work based mainly on commercial garments, the fashion industry or yarn work (knitting, crochet, tapestry, weaving) is excluded.
- Patchwork/quilting
- Artistic embroidery
- Textile surface design (fabric printing/dyeing/shibori)
- Mixed media that includes stitching and fabrics
- The residency project should be based on either continued individual artistic work or be a phase in a planned or ongoing collaboration with one or more professional textile artists who are active in the Uppsala area.
Application Requirements
- The application should be written in English and include following attachments (portrait format):
- CV: Education, exhibitions, possible teaching and lecturing experience.
- Personal presentation: (One A4 page, portrait format) Describe yourself, your professional/artistic practice and why you are applying for the residency as well as the intended context of your stay.
- Portfolio: (Five A4 pages, landscape or portrait) Include 5 photographs of your textile work. Reserve 1 A4 page for each work and add a brief description under respective photo. Feel free to use any page format (portrait/landscape) that presents each work of art, including its details, in the best possible way.
- You are also asked to provide up to 5 links where your work is presented online (website, Facebook, Instagram etc.) as well as information about the two optional elements (assisting colleague and workshop).
