The Afya na Haki Institute in collaboration with the African Institute of Investigative Journalism and RAES is launching a 3-month media fellowship under the theme: Navigating and mitigating the impact of complex global policies like the Global Gag Rule (GGR).
This Media Fellowship is designed to nurture and enhance capacities of African journalists and communication experts with the knowledge, skills, and resources to effectively and strategically investigate and report on reproductive justice issues amidst the complex global policy shifts.
Focus Areas
- Understanding the Global Gag Rule: Definition, Historical Context, and Impact on Reproductive Justice and Activism
- Current Landscape: Recent Global Developments, Case Studies and Counter measures
- Investigative Journalism Engaging affected communities and documenting their experiences
- Advocacy and Action Strategic communications, Movement building. Engaging policy maken, Legal interventions and Regional, and National advocacy
Benefits
- This fellowship will adopt flexible 1 intuitive approaches that facilitate practical and comprehensive engagements, allowing fellows to learn, share, document and communicate effectively. These will include:
- A 5-day residential training in Uganda from 14 April – 18 April 2025.
- Best fellows will receive small writing grants to develop and publish stories.
- Fellows will be engaged by partners to support media engagements in the focus countries.
Eligibility Criteria
- This fellowship is open to African media, professionals including journalists and communication experts from the LIRA Programme focus countries (Benin, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe) who have a profound yearning to enhance their knowledge and skills in navigating and mitigating the impact of complex global policies like the Global Gag Rule.
