YPL Unlocking Funding Workshop: A Comprehensive Grants Workshop for Success 2025

The Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Program on Unlocking Funding: A Comprehensive Grants Workshop for Success brings together emerging leaders from throughout the Pacific Islands, Australia, and New Zealand to enhance their grants management skills, identify and pursue grant opportunities, and collaborate in a regional network that grows opportunity to address complex challenges.

This workshop applies creative approaches from intersecting aspects of the core YPL Pillars (Education, Environment and Resource Management, Economic and Social Development, and Civic Leadership) to help identify funding opportunities and build effective grant management strategies for successful outcomes. The YPL Workshop includes:

  • Pre-Workshop Asynchronous Virtual Activities (1-26 September 2025)
  • In-person YPL Workshop in Brisbane, Australia (7 – 9 October 2025, not inclusive of travel days)
  • Post-Workshop Virtual Debriefing (5 February 2026)

Costs Covered

  • The YPL Program will cover all travel, accommodation, and meals for selected recipients. The YPL Program will only arrange participant travel from YPL-eligible countries/territories/states to the YPL Program.
  • If you currently reside outside of the region, you will be responsible for arranging your own travel to a YPL-eligible country/territory/state to receive Program arranged program travel to Brisbane, Australia. Travel dates may vary based on the location of departure/return and may require extended layovers depending on flight itineraries.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligibility requirements to apply as an Attendee:
    • Applicants must be between 25-40 years old at the time of the Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Unlocking Funding: A Comprehensive Grants Workshop for Success.
    • Applicants must be a citizen and current resident of one of the YPL countries: Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Islands of French Polynesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Taiwan, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, and the American-affiliated Pacific including American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Hawai’i. If your country of citizenship and current country of residency is not listed, you are not eligible to apply.
    • Applicants must be fluent in English. The YPL Program will be held entirely in English.
    • Applicants must have a minimum of two years of work experience. It is recommended that this includes experience with the early steps of the grant lifecycle.
    • Applicants must meet all COVID-19 requirements and agree to the COVID-19 Terms & Conditions outlined in this application.
    • Applicants must be able to participate in the program in its entirety including:
      • Securing all necessary travel documents and visa requirements needed to travel;
      • Be prepared to travel on any necessary travel dates required for the in-person workshop;
      • Participate in the asynchronous virtual pre-program activities;
      • Participate in the in-person workshop as outlined by the agenda;
      • Participate in the post-program follow-on debriefing discussion.
  • Eligibility requirements to apply as an Alumni Facilitator:
    • Applicants must be a YPL Alumni and have completed a minimum of one previous YPL Conference, Workshop, Small Grants project, and/or Professional Fellows program.
    • Applicants must be a minimum of 25 years old at the time of the YPL Unlocking Funding Workshop. There is no age limit for this role.
    • Applicants must be a citizen and current resident of one of the YPL countries: Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Islands of French Polynesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Taiwan, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, and U.S. partners from the American-affiliated Pacific including American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Hawai’i.If your country of citizenship and current country of residency is not listed, you are not eligible to apply.
    • Applicants must be fluent in English. The YPL Workshop will be held entirely in English.
    • Applicants must have a minimum of two years of extensive grants experience with a topic of expertise eligible as a Workshop Session. This includes, but is not limited to, experience working in government, regional Pacific agencies, and businesses as grant writers, budget and resource managers, and stakeholder and partnership relationship managers with an expressed intention to pursue grants.
    • Applicants must meet all COVID-19 requirements and agree to the COVID-19 Terms & Conditions outlined in this application.
    • Applicants must be able to participate in the program in its entirety including:
      • Securing all necessary travel documents and visa requirements needed to travel;
      • Be prepared to travel on any necessary travel dates required for the in-person workshop;
      • Participate in the asynchronous virtual pre-program activities;
      • Communicate and plan with Cultural Vistas regarding your workshop session’s intention, content, needs, and any relevant limitations;
      • Participate in the in-person workshop as outlined by the agenda, including your Workshop session as agreed upon with Cultural Vistas;
      • Participate in the post-program follow-on debriefing discussion.
