The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG) launches this call for the award of scholarships to postgraduate foreign nationals, intended to support research in Portugal, in the field of Humanities, on topics of Portuguese Culture.
The call is aimed at non-Portuguese researchers who reside abroad and wish to conduct research in Portugal on topics of Portuguese Culture, in the fields of History, Art History and Literature, with the aim of publishing a work, as: a scientific article; a publication or part of a publication; an academic dissertation or part of an academic dissertation.
Except for special cases provided for in agreements signed between the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and other institutions, the scholarship holder may not combine the Foundation’s scholarship with any other scholarship in Portugal.
The Scholarship
- The scholarship includes:
- A monthly allowance in accordance with the following table:
- Doctoral student: 1250 €
- Senior researchers: 2000 €
- A one-time payment of 1000 € for travel and installation expenses.
- Personal accident insurance during travel.
- A monthly allowance in accordance with the following table:
- The scholarships will be awarded for a minimum period of 2 months and up to a maximum period of ten months, non-renewable, to be used in the academic year 2024/2025.
- Failure to use the scholarship within the afore mentioned period will result in its immediate cancellation.
- Applications with work plans for periods longer than this will not be considered.
- Allowances are paid via bank transfer.
Obligations of the Scholarship Holders
- The scholarship holders are obliged to:
- Ensure that the Foundation is informed of any change of address;
- Secure all the legal formalities that allow them to stay in Portugal during the validity period of the scholarship;
- In the works published as a result of studies conducted, wholly or partly, with the assistance of a Foundation scholarship, explicit mention of this fact should always be made, if possible, including the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s logo;
- Submit a final report on their studies at the end of the scholarship, within a period of three months.
- The scholarship holder is responsible for obtaining the passport, visa, and other legal formalities.

- The call is aimed at non-Portuguese doctoral students and senior researchers who reside abroad and wish to conduct research in Portugal.
