The Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is inviting applications to help promote prosperity, reduce poverty and enhance political stability in the Republic of Marshall Islands.
Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders in developing countries. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in eligible countries. Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disability and other marginalised groups.
Focus Areas
- The priority areas of study for eligible RMI are:
- health
- education and skills development
- environmental management, including climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction
- natural resource management, including maritime and fisheries
- agricultural and rural development
- cybersecurity and national security
- psychology, social work, and social protection
- international policy and law.
Benefits
- Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training.
- Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
Eligibility Criteria
- For Master’s Degree level study:
- Must hold a bachelor’s degree (prior to commencing study), with above average results.
- At least 3 years relevant work experience.
- Must not hold or have held another scholarship to study outside of the RMI in the 24 months preceding the application.
- Applicants must have an IELTS or TOEFL at pass rate of 6.5 for each band that is current at the time of application.
- Must not already hold a Master’s degree.
- For Doctorate Degree (PhD) level study:
- Must hold a Master’s degree (prior to commencing study), with above average results.
- Must have at least 3 years relevant work experience.
- Must not hold or have held another scholarship to study outside of the RMI in the 24 months preceding the application.
- Applicants must have an IELTS or TOEFL at pass rate of 6.5 for each band that is current at the time of application.
- If proposing to complete by research, must provide letter of recommendation from sponsoring professor.
- Must not already hold a PhD.
- Undergraduate and Post-Graduate:
- Must hold an Associates degree or USP Foundation Studies certificate (prior to commencing study) with minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Must currently be residing in RMI.
- If the recipient of a previous scholarship (including Australia Awards), must have worked in RMI for a minimum of two years cumulatively.
- Must not currently hold another scholarship with the same benefits.
- Must be able to meet the visa requirement of your proposed country of study.
Selection Criteria
- The selection process includes an interview. Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Academic competence
- Potential outcome, specifically the contribution to development outcomes in RMI
- Professional and personal leadership attributes including relevant work experience.
