Applications open for Sonica Glasgow Festival (UK and Ireland)

They are particularly interested in sonic installations for outdoor spaces and site-specific works for unique venues, places or spaces in Glasgow. They are also interested in artists who make live visuals for performance.

Sonica is an 11-day biennial festival in Glasgow, dedicated to world-class visual sonic arts. The award-winning festival will present cutting edge work by international artists alongside emerging UK and Irish talent across the city.

They understand there is a need to provide opportunities to artists who are currently underrepresented within the sector. They particularly welcome applications from artists identifying as:

• Black, Asian or ethnically diverse:
• LGBTQIA+;
• women and gender expansive, trans umbrella, non-binary artists;
• D/deaf or disabled;
• having caring responsibilities;
• working class or from a low socio-economic background.

What they offer?

• A fee of £750 – £1000 depending on the type of work (performance/installation/visuals) and artists’ level of experience;
• Travel, accommodation and per diems for artists based out with Glasgow when an overnight stay(s) are incurred;
• Support in sourcing basic technical equipment where possible;
• Support for install/de-install or technical support for performance;
• Venue hire, PR and marketing support;
• Documentation of your work;
• A platform for your work supported by an experienced, international arts company;
• An opportunity to take part in an international arts festival;
• An opportunity to build a new audience for your work;
• Valuable opportunities to develop networks alongside exceptional international and emerging artists.

• In Person:
  • Thursday 02 November, 10:00 – 13:00: An opportunity to ask any questions you have about the Open Call in person at CCA, Glasgow.
• Online:
  • Friday 03 November, 11:00 – 12:00: An opportunity to learn more about Sonica and the open call if you are not based in Glasgow.

Who can apply?

• Artists from all backgrounds and any career stage, based in the UK or Ireland;
• Performance works must include a strong sound and visual element;
• Installations, must contain sound;
• All work must be complete and had at least one public showing;
• If you make real time visuals for performance, they will accept examples of previous work;
• Artists not in full time education;
• Please note they are not looking for work in any form of theatre, literature, comedy, circus or dance. They do not support commissions or the development of new work.
