The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) is inviting applications for its Sponsorship Program to support new music-related projects which are not captured in other program mandates.
These may include new and genre-specific music festivals, broadcaster conferences, artist development programs which expand participants’ opportunities in the music industry. This program is specifically for new ventures that meet a specific result aligned with the mandate of FACTOR, which is to help to build audience for Canadian Artists in the commercial music industry. It is not meant to duplicate the work of existing events already producing results in other FACTOR programs, nor an additional funding avenue when already receiving funding from another national program. FACTOR’s limited resources are focused on measurable results that will benefit as many Canadian artists as possible.
Funding Information
- Maximum funding is up to $30,000.
- Applicants may only receive funding twice.
Eligible Expenses
- Sponsorship funding must:
- Be spent on Canadian goods and services provided in Canada;
- Be paid to the Applicant, not to suppliers directly (including artists’ fees).
Ineligible Projects
- The following types of projects are ineligible:
- Music schools
- Instrument Purchases
- Talent contests
- Fundraisers
- Parades
- BIA festivals
- Award Shows
- Student projects
- Charities
- Children’s music programming
- Projects which benefit only one company (e.g., record label) or one artist
- Sporting Events or Tournaments
- Projects involving the creation and/or release of sound recordings or videos
Eligibility Criteria
- Any Canadian person, Canadian owned and controlled company or organization with an appropriate project is eligible to apply.
- An applicant’s principal business purpose is central to the career development of Canadian music artists.
- Events or projects should reflect the diversity of Canada’s population.
- A letter of intent is required in advance of approval to apply.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Projects featuring only one artist, or one company’s roster, are not eligible.
Review Criteria
- Eligible applications are reviewed using the following criteria:
- The project’s relevance to the program’s intent;
- The project’s strategic value to the participating Canadian artists and music entrepreneurs;
- The project’s impact on underserved communities;
- The capacity of the Applicant organization to achieve the proposed results; and
- The appropriateness of financial planning (including the proportion of administrative expenses to project expenses, and whether the requested amount is proportionate to the project’s impact).
- Activities can be in any language, except French.
- For repeat Applicants, in all cases, the application will not be reviewed unless the Completion has been submitted and any reporting obligations for a prior funded project or event have been met.
