The George & Aristea Mamidakis Foundation is seeking applications for its Art Prize to promote and financially support contemporary artists, with the ultimate goal of highlighting excellence in the arts.
The foundation supports contemporary artists by offering them the opportunity to create a new site-specific artwork that will not only become part of the Foundation’s art collection, but will join an important cultural heritage as well.
The 2025 Art Prize calls for site-specific, large-scale land art installations created to remain on permanent display outdoors, and become part of a specific, configured environment; works which narrate an internal path/route, and which can be reference points within their exhibition space.
Goal
- The goal of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation is to cultivate collaborations beyond the art prize residency and to support all awarded artists through its network. The Foundation offers the possibility of supporting artists with endorsement letters for further funding of their work.
Focus Areas
- The 2025 prize is open to visual artists working in one of the following fields:
- land art
- environmental art
- ecological art
- sculpture
- sound and sculptural installation
- mixed media
- artists working with natural materials, creating works that integrate art and nature with the aim of generating innovative experiences in open spaces.
Benefits
- The Foundation offers:
- A close collaboration of the artist with the Artistic Director and the Foundation’s team, as well as support during the making of the artwork.
- Hospitality for the artist, including accommodation and meals at Minos Palace in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, and transportation to and from Heraklion Airport to Minos Palace.
- Guidance and support for the facilitation of production, including the acquisition of materials and technical knowledge.
- Coverage of construction, transportation, and installation expenses of the awarded work based on the mutually agreed-upon budget.
- Organization of the exhibition and its promotion in the press.
- Creation of print/electronic materials, exhibition catalogue, and related publications.
- Press coverage and interviews for the selected artist.
Prize Information
- The selected proposal will be awarded the amount of 30,000 euros, and the Foundation will also cover the construction of the work.
- Duration: The selected artist will have from January until the end of May to create their proposed work.
Eligibility Criteria
- The 2025 Art Prize invites Greek and international artists to apply. The selected proposal will stand out for its originality, creativity, and site-specificity.
Selection Criteria
- All proposals are reviewed and evaluated by the Selection Committee composed of visual artists, members of the academic community, and curators, as well as the Artistic Director of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation.
Application Requirements
- The application can be completed either in Greek or in English and submitted exclusively through the designated form on the Foundation’s website. Applications sent by email or otherwise will be rejected unless prior arrangement has been made with the Foundation.
