CFAs: Cannon Family Travel Grants 2024 (Australia)

The funding is intended to provide financial support to two individuals in the blood cancer research community to attend an international conference, workshop, symposium, or other professional event. By attending an international event, recipients will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, exchange ideas, establish collaborations, and bring back valuable insights that can advance blood cancer research in Australia.

Priorities

• Snowdome has a strategic granting process that identifies key pillars to fight blood cancer including:
  • Epigenetics
  • Genomics/precision medicine
  • Immune therapies
  • Monoclonal antibodies
  • Pro-apoptotic agents
  • Targeting the microenvironment

Funding Information

• Grant amount: Up to AUD $5,000 plus GST each.
• Grant Duration: Travel must be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be actively engaged in the field of blood cancer research, either as a clinician, researcher or haematologist.
• Applicants must be based in Australia and have institutional or organisational support to obtain leave to attend an international scientific meeting.
• Applications should align with one of the Snowdome Foundation pillars.
• Applications must demonstrate how the event will contribute to strengthening the applicant’s knowledge and advancing blood cancer research in Australia.
• Both early-career and established professionals are encouraged to apply.
• Priority may be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.

Review Criteria

• Applications will be subject to review by the Snowdome selection panel. Members may include medical/scientific experts, Cannon family members and representatives of the Snowdome Grants Committee and Executive. Eligible applicants will be assessed against the assessment criteria to generate an overall score to rank applications.
• Snowdome reserves the right not to award the Cannon Family Travel Grant if no suitable applicants are identified.

Application Requirements

• Applicants must submit the following documents as part of their application:
  • Cover Letter: a concise introductory statement is required, outlining the applicant’s eligibility for the grant. Applicants must provide details of the event they plan to attend (including the event name, dates, location) and a brief description of its relevance to blood cancer research and how it will contribute to their professional development. The cover letter must also include a budget outlining how the grant funds will be used, including travel, accommodation and registration fees.
  • Statement of Support: a letter of support from a mentor, supervisor, or colleague that highlights the applicant’s dedication to blood cancer research and the potential impact of attending the event.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): to include the applicant’s qualifications, current and prior positions (last 5 years), awards/notable achievements (last 5 years), top ten publications (last 10 years) and education, research experience. The CV should be no more than 2 pages.
