The ArtsBox Artist Residency program is open to artists of all disciplines who live, work or study in Melbourne’s West or can demonstrate a connection to the City of Maribyrnong.
Artsbox is a vibrant, intimate, converted shipping container studio based outside Footscray Library that is used for short-term artist residencies.
This versatile space with small kitchenette and plumbed sink, split system air conditioning and large tables, is suited for a variety of art forms, including those that require a wet room. Artsbox Artist Residency Program offers six-week residencies suited to the development of new work, testing and exploring ideas or the development of your arts practice.
Benefits
- Six-week residency in the converted shipping container studio.
- Stipend of $1,000 toward artist fees and/or material costs.
- Access to Footscray Library resources including a library card, printing and use of the library conference room and assistance with connecting to the community and library programs.
- Marketing support in sharing community engagement opportunities and residency outcomes
Eligible Activities
- Artists are encouraged to work on creative projects that use the Footscray Library Collection and/or connect to the library’s programming and community to maximise the benefits of the program for artists and the local community.
Eligibility Criteria
- Artists offered a residency will:
- Be present at Artsbox a minimum of four days per week during the agreed residency period. Access to the studio is only available during Footscray Library staffed hours.
- Provide a written evaluation and summary of the residency, including images of their residency outcomes, which the City of Maribyrnong can use for marketing and reporting purposes, within 30 days of the residency ending.
- Any future activities resulting from the Artsbox residency are required to acknowledge the creative development opportunity offered by the City of Maribyrnong. Logos and acknowledgement details will be supplied to successful applicants.
- Offer the public at least one engagement opportunity to view or be involved in the residency outcome.
- Provide evidence of Public Liability insurance to the value of no less than $10 million.
Selection Criteria
- A demonstrated connection to Maribyrnong or Melbourne’s West.
- A clearly articulated residency proposal with clear aims and objectives for a new creative project.
- A proposal for engaging with the local community and/or the Footscray Library’s collection.
