Deadline: 31 October 2024
The Finnish Cultural Foundation is awarding an additional €1 million in funding for applied research supporting the mental health of children and young people.
The special focus of the “Million for Science” is supporting the mental health of children and young people. Applications can address the theme from different perspectives, but studies that preventively seek scientifically justified solutions for the support of children’s and young people’s mental health and thereby reduce the need for mental health services, are particularly encouraged. The grant can be applied, in addition to work, for necessary material expenses or fees. The Additional Million-euro Grant will be awarded to no more than five research projects.
The application is open to all fields of science, and an interdisciplinary approach is valued.
Ineligible Expenses
- Grants are not awarded:
- as wage increments or incentive grants
- on social grounds
- to basic (bachelor’s and master’s) degree students as working grants or for student exchange included in studies
- for postdoctoral research abroad except for visits lasting less than one semester (less than 6 months)
- to cover plain printing costs
- for internships
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant can be a working group consisting of several researchers, but not a university or research institute. Involving young people in the planning, implementation, and interpretation of the results is considered essential. All scientific work in the project is paid as a working grant, not as a salary.
Evaluation Criteria
- All grant applications are peer evaluated.
- The Central Fund October round applications are evaluated by over 50 committees, which invite 2 annually rotating outside experts as their members.
- Rigid guidelines are applied to the application evaluation process to ensure utmost impartiality. An awarded grant is subject to annulment if any lack of impartiality is discovered after the decision-making process.
- The applications are processed in confidentiality. The identities of the experts are not disclosed, nor do the experts justify their decisions in writing. Therefore, no feedback on the applications can be given.
