Applications are now open for the European Commission’s Dijon 3rd Hackathon Program to involve students in developing innovative solutions to reach RESPONSE objectives regarding energy transition as well as smart and low-carbon city transformation.
The Hackathon’s purpose is to foster the emergence of innovative products and services related to energy transition and transition towards smart and low carbon cities. Challenges may address energy, mobility, smart building and infrastructures, waste management, empowerment, adaptation to climate change, etc.’
Challenges
- The Hackathon’s purpose is to foster the emergence of innovative products and services related to energy transition and smart and low-carbon cities. Challenges may address topics like energy, mobility, smart building and infrastructures, waste management, empowerment, adaptation to climate change, etc.
- More specifically, the challenges will address following issues:
- How to use data to develop innovative solutions for smart and low carbon cities?
- How to visualize and model carbon emission/pollution/heat/energy consumption in the city to monitor actions for progress?
- How to encourage and help inhabitants and stakeholders to change their behavior to lower their carbon footprint?
Funding Information
- The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of 1,000€ paid with multi-brand Vouchers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Participants must complete the following cumulative criteria:
- Being over 18 years old and liable under civil law on the day of the hackathon
- Being a student at an EU university.
- Being able to assist in person to the whole hackathon in Dijon from 15 November – 17 November 2024
- Having fulfilled the registration form on the platform
- Having joined a team to address one of the challenges The composition of the teams will be released on the first day of the hackathon at 17:00h. Each team will be composed of 5 to 8 persons and must mix Participants from several schools. Each team must appoint a referent member in charge of the communication with the Organizers.
Evaluation Criteria
- The project will be evaluated by the jury following the criteria specified below:
- Maturity of the deliverable given by the Jury: 20 points
- Quality of the prototype – 5 points
- Quality of the pitch – 5 points
- Technical feasibility – 5 points
- Appropriateness of the solution to the challenge – 5 points
- Cohesion and motivation of the team evaluated by the coaches: 10 points
- Maturity of the deliverable given by the Jury: 20 points
Requirements
- Participants are indirect beneficiaries of European Commission funding under the RESPONSE project. As such, they must comply with the obligations arising from the specific requirements of the European Commission. In particular:
- Conflicts of interest: Participants must not have any potential conflict of interest.
- Confidentiality: Participants must keep confidential the Confidential Information brought to their knowledge in the framework of the Hackathon for a period of four (4) years after the end of the RESPONSE project.
- Visibility of the EU funding: Publicity of the prize by winning teams must include the EU emblem, the RESPONSE project logo and the sentence acknowledging that: “The prize was awarded by RESPONSE project, which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 957751”.
- Financial audits: The European Commission may, at any time during the implementation of the RESPONSE project and up to five years after the end, organize financial audits. Each Participant may be required to make directly available to the EC all detailed information and data that may be requested by the EC or any representative authorized by it.
