If these questions spark your imagination, and you are a young secondary school or university students, or early-career scientists and engineers, UNESCO is inviting you to participate in the Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards and Science for the Sustainable Development Goals Innovation Contest.
The 2024 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards and Science for the Sustainable Development Goals Innovation Contest will solicit innovative and creative works from young people around the world. The aim is to raise awareness of, and advocate for, the important role of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These competitions align with the vision and mission of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (IDSSD) to build a culture of science. In line with the Decade, this contest aims to build a culture of science for people and the planet by:
- Empowering the global community through scientific literacy
- Generating and utilizing actionable scientific knowledge to accelerate SDG progress aligned with human rights
- Advancing basic sciences through global research collaborations
- Promoting the widespread and equitable use of open science to democratize scientific processes and knowledge access
- Transforming national innovation systems to better serve scientific and societal needs

Prize Information
- Winners will be presented with a certificate jointly issued by UNESCO and the International Innovation Design Awards. The winners will be announced on UNESCO’s website. Their projects will be showcased as key promotional materials in IDSSD activities.
- Entry works will be reviewed based on the four categories. Awards in each category are the following:
- Gold: 10 works
- Silver: 15 works
- Bronze: 20 works
- Note: Awards may be vacant depending on the quality of the work.
Eligibility Criteria
- The International Innovation Design Awards welcomes the participation of young people aged 16 to 35 from around the world, including young secondary school and university students, as well as early-career scientists and engineers. Application must be submitted by teams of up to five members, with at least one female member per team in order to ensure gender equality.
- A diverse range of works that advocate Sciences for the SDGs are welcome. They expect to see how diverse artistic creativities could unveil the beauty and power of sciences, exploring and revealing the profound impact of scientific endeavors on our path toward a more sustainable future.
- These works can take many forms, including but not limited to, posters, videos, GIFs, illustrations, games, apps, interactive designs, as well as sustainable designs such as products, decorations, fashion, architecture, design and public art.
Requirements
- Entry works must follow the following rules:
- Entry works must respect ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, etc., and must not include discriminatory content.
- Entry works must be original works. Plagiarism is prohibited, and works should not infringe on third-party intellectual property. IIDA Committee has the right to cancel the qualification of works infringing upon the intellectual property right, and the contest is not responsible for any consequence.
- Entry works should use the contest’s official logo according to the requirements.
- Entry works should meet other contest requirements.
