Apply for UN Women: Beijing +30 Champions (Caribbean)

The Champions will promote the BfPA 12 Critical Areas of Concern (2 per critical area) and will also include broad based (6) Gender Equality Champions.

Duration 

• The Champions will be invited to serve in this capacity for the one-year period of observance of Beijing +30 – September 2024 – September 2025. The Beijing +30 Campaign will be globally launched at the UN General Assembly September 2024.

Role

• Be an advocate for the Beijing Platform for Action and clearly articulate its critical importance for sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs.
• Champions can select at least 1 of the 12 critical areas of concern, in addition to their core priority area, to highlight in their advocacy.
• Provide feedback to UN Women on the MCO Caribbean Beijing +30 strategy including along the roll out.
• Participate in visibility opportunities as identified and agreed upon collaboratively.
• Collaborate with UN Women in strengthening its engagement with society at all levels.

Eligibility Criteria

• Individuals invited to serve as Caribbean 30 for Beijing+30 Champions shall:
  • Be committed to and have a verifiable track record of promoting and upholding the principles of gender equality.
  • Be persons of integrity who demonstrate a strong desire to help mobilize public interest in, and support for realizing the 12 Critical Areas of the Beijing Platform for Action, thus advancement towards Gender Equality and the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Demonstrate the commitment and proven potential to reach out to significant audiences, including decision makers and Influencers1.
  • Have a track record/widely recognized talent/accomplishments for working in one or more of the 12 Critical Areas of the Beijing Platform for Action including through the arts, innovation, entertainment, sport or other fields of public life.
  • Be between the ages of 17 and older.
  • Are influential in their age group and spaces including at the community and national level. Those with influence beyond their national borders is an added fillip.
  • Be knowledgeable about United Nations, UN Women’s goals and activities and be able to articulate them.

Selection Criteria

• The Champions shall be nominated by members of the public in countries covered by the UN Women MCO Caribbean geographical mandate.
• Once nominations are received, the final Champions will be determined by the MCO Caribbean Selection Committee.
