Deadline: 30 September 2024
The Martin Roth-Initiative invites 20 feminist women artists from Ukraine to a residency to reflect on what it means to be a woman artist in Ukraine today.
The Martin Roth-Initiative starts a new project which aims to empower women artists in Ukraine. Through a residency with online workshops, discussions and expert meetings, an offline meet up in Germany, and a joint publication, the project promotes collaboration, intellectual search and dialogue, feminist discourse and artistic exploration.
Participants will explore how their art has changed after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, what makes the voice of a female artist sound louder or quieter and what it can offer during the war.
Benefits
- Intellectual inspiration and exchange: lectures, workshops, and discussions to deepen artistic search and feminist discourse.
- Space for reflection, mutual support and empowerment: on- and offline meetings will invite to share thoughts and experiences, jointly look for answers to challenging questions, and develop new ideas for further artistic practice.
- Artists are invited to document their thoughts and observations; the final publication of the project will be an opportunity to share them publicly and by that contribute to the development of Ukrainian artistic and feminist discourses.
- Artists will receive a residency stipend for the participation including funding support for materials.
Eligibility Criteria
- Application for the residency is open to women artists, and selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Residence in Ukraine.
- Experience in artistic activity and artistic practice reflecting on social issues in their works.
- Motivation.
- Interest in the project topics and feminist discourses.
- Good command of English.
- Commitment to participate in all programme parts of residency.
