Call for Proposals: UNESCO Intersectoral Programme on Environmental Education

The Intersectoral Programme IP2 on Environmental Education aims to promote learning and teaching activities on climate change and the environment in UNESCO designated sites, engage schools and teachers with local communities, and collect and share evidence and policy efforts on climate change education.

UNESCO continuously supports national stakeholders, including ministries and schools, in their efforts to mainstream climate change in and through education and learning. This initiative responds to the demands from youth for quality climate education generated from the global youth consultation on the quality of climate change education conducted by UNESCO in 2022.

Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, the incumbent shall carry out the following tasks:

• Explore, design and implement a Transboundary Initiative on climate change education. This should involve both local authorities, UNESCO Chairs and schools to scale up good practices of teaching and learning activities. To do this, the incumbent will support and promote school-led teaching and learning activities on climate change, notably in UNESCO designated sites, and review the linkage with the existing curricula.
• Develop and establish a Knowledge Platform to monitor and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and to record other relevant materials.

Funding Information

• The project team will collaborate closely with UNESCO to implement activities that align with its mandates, particularly in environmental and climate change education. The selected proposal will be allocated funding, with an amount of up to 22,000 USD and shall be remunerated in accordance with UNESCO rules and procedures.

Eligibility Criteria

• Educational agencies, universities, research agencies, independent experts, NGOs, and schools from UNESCO Member States in Europe (with a priority focus on South-East Europe and the Mediterranean) are all eligible applicants.
