The Danish Arts Foundation is currently inviting applications for the Visual Arts Project funding program to promote Danish and foreign contemporary art in Denmark, as well as Danish contemporary art abroad.
Danish Arts Foundation encourages applicants to incorporate green sustainability into their work. There is no specified limit on the amount you may apply for.
Funding Areas
- You can apply for funding in the following areas:
- Production of New Works
- If you are a Non-Danish artist, you may apply for grants to produce new works for exhibitions in Denmark. Please note that only artists are eligible as applicants for production grants.
- Typical expenses covered include materials, production fees for artists, payments to others, and travel and accommodation related to production.
- Presentation
- Presentation and dissemination projects solely focusing on a Non-Danish artist intended for a Non-Danish audience are not funded.
- Grants are however available for dissemination of Danish contemporary art to a Non-Danish audience in printed or digital form. Grants are also available for dissemination of Non-Danish contemporary art to a Danish audience in printed or digital form. The presentation must meet an audience, either through a distributing publisher, or an exhibition open to the puclic. It is not sufficient to have an agreement with a printing company. Art books, catalogues, and publications are funded only when especially relevant for the artist or the project.
- Exhibitions in Denmark or Abroad
- Exhibitions solely focusing on a Non-Danish artist intended for a Non-Danish audience are not funded.
- Grants are however available for exhibitions featuring Danish and international contemporary artists in Denmark, as well as grants for exhibitions and fairs with Danish contemporary artists abroad.
- Typical expenses covered include exhibition fees, technical equipment rental, installation, insurance for works, transport of works, and travel, hotel, or other expenses related to an exhibition but not directly tied to the production of the works.
- Exhibition Fees
- The committee encourages exhibition venues to pay fees to artists in connection with their work on an exhibition. Venues may apply for funding for exhibition fees, covering the artist’s activities related to an exhibition that cannot be directly linked to the production of works. This includes participation in meetings, setting up and dismantling an exhibition, and involvement in PR and presentation.
- Production of New Works
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-Danish artists are eligible to apply if they intend to create a visual work of art for exhibition in Denmark.
- Non-Danish venues may apply if they plan to exhibit the works of contemporary Danish visual artists outside Denmark.
- You cannot receive funding for:
- Permanent works in public, which are f funded by other funds in the Committee for Visual Arts Grants.
- Studio rental
- Per diem allowance
- Invitations, meals, etc. in connection with exhibition previews
- Travel and accommodation for assistants (generally not covered)
- Travel and accommodation in connection with exhibitions in galleries where the artist has a permanent affiliation
- Local transport
- Projects that the committee has previously processed (reapplications)
- Exhibitions that opened before the application deadline
- Gallery exhibitions: Artists may apply for grants for the production of works. Other expenses for the exhibition are only covered if the committee assesses them as a special investment by the gallery.
Requirements
- The attached appendices must not exceed a total of 25 MB.
- The attached material may only be submitted in the following formats: PDF, Word, MP3, and MP4. ZIP files are not accepted.
- The committee processes the last application that you have submitted to them.
- Your application must include all mandatory appendices to be processed by the committee. Additional material beyond what is specified in the application guidelines will not be considered in the assessment of your application.
- You are personally responsible for completing the application form accurately and ensuring that all required appendices are attached.
Evaluation Criteria
- Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding processes applications based on the following criteria for the project applied for:
- The proposed project should promote contemporary art in Denmark and/or Danish contemporary art abroad.
- The proposed project must demonstrate high artistic quality and show a high level of artistic professionalism.
- The proposed project is part of a context with a high level of artistic professionalism.
- Awareness is shown regarding the project’s communication and interaction with the audience.
- The proposed project is accessible to the public.
- The proposed project contributes to local or international networking.
- The proposed project is innovative.
